The Germans have given us a lot, most of which have been engraved deep in the annals of history; they have given us the World Wars, beer, sausages, the concrete pump and so many others. You'll immediately notice that the list is quite dreary, well apart from the beer that is, but they did give us something to solve that entirely, CARS. The car in question is from Volkswagen and it has been with us for a good 40 years; the Golf.
Anton Konrad
,
leading a six man team, created one of the world's iconic hot hatch of all time. Lets go through and see the rich history of the Golf.
The MK I GTI
The very first of its kind, was birthed in 1975 with a 1.5L 4 cylinder engine giving us 110hp was at that time was more than enough to enjoy.
The MK II GTI
Nice years later, we get this, the second generation with a 1.7L engine producing the same power as its predecessor, that is, 110hp. But still a lot fun to drive
The MK II G60
This had a supercharged engine and it gave out a good 160hp at that time.
The MK II Rallye Golf
This one had a four wheel drive system some flared arches and also rectangular shaped headlights. It was a special so it was very expensive when it came out

The MK II Golf Limited
With the Limited your engine gives you a good 210hp to play with alongside other playable things to enjoy
The MK III GTI
In Ghana, this was when people were getting to grips with the Golf car but unfortunately, the one who engineered it to make it fun probably quite out of anger or spite, then they made this. It came with a 2.0L and produced something around 140hp but it felt heavy and very fat.
The MK III VR6
Well, the name tells it all, it had a VR6 engine. In case you are wondering what a VR6 engine is, let me tell you. It is a mash up or a combination of a V6 engine and a straight in line engine. It shares a common cylinder head for the two offset banks of cylinders. What makes these engines desirable? The sound.........
The MK III 20th Anniversary GTI
They were 20 years and had to celebrate...........so apart for some aesthetic and interior detailing, it was pretty much the same
The MK IV GTI
Launched in 1998 was trying to appeal to those who loved performance in any way they would want it
The MK IV R32
In 2003 after so many years of getting bored with the Mk IV GTI they decided to fit a 3.2L VR6 engine producing about 237hp to it then put the R32 badge on it, then we got this.
The MK IV V6 4Motion
This gets a 2.8L proper V6 engine allowing for 201hp and also came with a 4 wheel drive system
The MK IV GTI 25th Anniversary
Again, they were 25 years and needed to celebrate.......they did.
The MK IV GTI 20th Anniversary
Please don't get it wrong. This one was build to celebrate its 20 years in only America not in the world or in Europe. That's why it comes after the 25th Anniversary.
The MK V GT Sport
This right here came with a 1.4L twin-charged petrol engine or a 2.0L diesel lump when it launched in 2009. It really was a fun Golf
The MK V GTI
Having a 2.0L TFSI engine with a six-speed gearbox, this was arguably one of the best Golf made.
The MK V Pirelli
Well, if you want some differences, lets start with this having 30hp more the the Mk V and this built in collaboration with Pirelli therefore it shouldn't come as a surprise that its fitted with Pirelli tyres.
The MK V R32
It has a 3.2L VR6 engine producing 247hp making it have 10hp more than its predecessor and also having a 4 wheel drive system
The MK V GTI Edition 30
This was to celebrate 30 of Golf's existence. It has 30hp more than the standard GTI, a front spoiler and tinted rear lights.
The GTI W12
This is by far the most ludicrous Golf. It has a mid-mounted twin-turbo W12 from a Bentley Continental (thats how it got the name W12), Audi R8 rear subframe and a Lamborghini Gallardo’s rear axle and brakes. It was built for the Worthersee GTI Festival in just 8 weeks.
The MK VI GTI
It has a 2.0L 4 cylinder inline engine from the Scirocco which gave it 207hp whereas its predecessors had somewhere around 197 hp.
The MK VI R
The R has got about 59hp more than the MK VI GTI which means it has about 266hp............
The Golf R Cabriolet
This particular one is a concept so......... the idea is to remove the roof of the R above. So same engine and power output
The MK VII Golf GTI
Engine: a 2.0L turbocharged 4 cylinder in line engine producing 217hp or you can decide to have the 227hp performance pack version. Its your call, but you will enjoy the performance pack more.
The MK VII Golf R
This is a very powerful Golf with 296hp from a 2.0L turbocharged 4 cylinder inline engine, it also has a 4 wheel drive system..........
The Golf R Estate
This is a more practical version of the Golf R above it..........
The Golf GTI Clubsport
This one is what you get when the GTI and the R mate..........just in the middle. Still a front wheel drive with a 2.0L turbocharged 4 cylinder engine giving you 287hp to enjoy.
The Golf GTI Clubsport S
This one has 306hp and is still is a front wheel drive............
The Golf R Variant Performance 35
To celebrate 35 years of life this has 345hp to enjoy but unfortunately it is a concept and was built for the Worthersee enthusiasts. It also has stereo to make noise for a street jam.
Golf GTI Heartbeat
This is their 40 years birthday gift to themselves, it has 394hp and very powerful stereo to make you go deaf. And yes, it is a concept.
